Privacy & fare policy

Farehound sends your selected route, dates, passenger counts, children’s ages, cabin and currency to configured fare providers when you search. It does not request passenger names, passport information or payment details.

Your search data

Farehound stores your email, a securely hashed password, and login sessions in its Neon database. Your email is not verified and password recovery by email is not available yet. Saved routes, dates, passenger ages, filters and monitoring preferences are linked to your account ID. Vercel hosts the application. Remove a trip in My trips to delete that record and stop monitoring. Legacy device-only saves remain in local storage until cleared. A temporary search draft can be kept in session storage while you sign in. Farehound does not run advertising or analytics scripts. Hosting and API providers may retain their own operational logs under their policies.

The server briefly caches normalized quotes and source receipts for request efficiency. Cache entries are usable for at most 30 seconds and expired entries are cleaned during subsequent searches. If there are no later searches, expired records can remain stored until the next cleanup, but cannot be served. Search abuse prevention uses date-scoped hashed IP addresses and shared request counters. Account sessions may store your IP address and browser information for security. Sessions expire after seven days of inactivity.

Monitoring

Monitoring is opt-in for each saved trip. Scheduled checks send the saved search parameters to eligible production providers when credentials and scheduled access are active. We retain the last comparison amount, source coverage, check time and an in-app update until you delete the trip. This baseline is never presented as a current bookable fare. No emails or bookings are sent. Checks are subject to shared request budgets, provider availability and account approvals. Monitoring stops when the saved travel dates are no longer valid.

What a price means

The displayed total is the source-returned price for the whole party, in the displayed currency. The per-person price is an arithmetic average, not a claim that a child’s fare equals an adult’s fare. Optional baggage, payment or fulfillment charges can affect the final booking price. No flight is reserved by searching.

Quotes expire after at most two minutes, or earlier if the source says so. A short cache reuse keeps the original source timestamp. Test fares, estimated prices, expired offers and historical calibrations are excluded. We do not invent exchange rates; mismatched-currency offers are excluded.

Booking and availability

Exact-offer checkout is not yet connected. Duffel and AirGateway require a separate ticketing workflow; a generic booking site link would not preserve a selected price. Live provider activation, commercial permissions and production validation are also required before launch claims can be made.

There is no guarantee of finding the cheapest flight in the market. A failed or incomplete source search is reported, and available fares may be limited by each source’s inventory and response caps.
